Welcome to the Serving Our Troops Website
Serving Our Troops is dedicated to showing our Minnesota National Guard members and their families, as well other troops from across the nation, that we appreciate their brave service to our country. We show this appreciation by bringing them just a bit of Saint Paul – both here at home and thousands of miles away – a home-grown, delicious steak dinner with the family. Serving Our Troops continues to plan for a host of unique events in support of our troops and families. Since Saint Paul to Kosovo in 2004, and with the support of citizens and businesses, we have served over 25,000 steaks to our troops and their families. Stay tuned for future projects including Rochester to Kosovo on June 1st, as we continue SERVING IT UP FOR THE TROOPS in 2008! For SaintPaul to Iraq in 2007, nearly 12,000 soldiers in Iraq dined on steaks sent all the way from Saint Paul while back home citizens and businesses joined hands – and spatulas– to serve a Saint Paul Sunday meal to their families. Through a live video link, soldiers and their families sat down to “share” a meal – dinner with the family. For Saint Paul to Camp Shelby in 2006, our team of over 70 volunteers traveled to Camp Shelby in Mississippi with 8,000 steaks to provide a send-off for 2,600 Minnesota troops and their families preparing for deployment to Iraq. For Saint Paul to Kosovo in 2004, the Serving Our Troops team traveled to Kosovo and served nearly 2000 Saint Paul steaks for Minnesota Guard Members and other troops while 1500 family members dined on a Saint Paul meal back home at the Xcel Center – all linked via live video. Dinner with the family –it’s a simple thing.  |
